Footbridge
| This is an example of the building information model approach to CAD design. For this project Cubico supplied the images as part of a campaign to raise funds for a footbridge. The footbridge deck and railings were constructed as one object in the virtual model using ArchiCADs' GDL programming language.. A CAD object programmed in GDL has many changeable parameters. When any of the object's parameters are changed , for example length or width, the results can instantly be seen in 3D Using one complex GDL object the design of this bridge was easily refined. The changeable parameters in this object were: The central curve. The length of the straight sections. The curve in the vertical axis. The distance between the ribs holding the handrail. By changing each of these four values the overall look of a footbridge could be radically altered. The GDL object could also be refined at a later stage of the project to calculate quantities and dimensions of steel plates or other constructional details |
